Fond farewell (for now)

Aug. 25th, 2006 | 01:00 pm
mood: nostalgic nostalgic

I hate to have to do this but here we go..........
GOODBYE!!!!!!!!!!!!! for now, this will be my last LJ entry for a while.
After much thought and stress and whatnot I have decided it's time for me to hang up my riding straps (for the time being) The short story is after everything that has happened I decided it was time for a new job, new home and new start. I won't have broadband at home for at least 2-3 months until I get settled and as this is kind of partly a rush descision I haven't had the opportunity to say a fond farewell on Soucon, I have loved being there and everyone has been fantastic! I will miss you all dearly and hopefully once I get my life back together (or at least to some level of normality) I will be able to return. I have just started my Biology A-level one year course with the hope that I can get a place at university next year so *fingers crossed* as I am hoping to start on The Forensic science and Crime scene investigation degree and cross the pond to find work. I do get to spend 2 semesters of my 2nd year somewhere in the states but I have no clue where lol.

HUGE HUGS to everyone that reads this! I will be available on MSN during working hours (as it's the only programme aloud on the work computers)and also by email as I can check it quite often, so please get in touch, my user name thing is katmac2164@hotmail.com

Thank you all again for being wonderful and such!

Laptop+overly bouncy labrador+drink=BAD!

Yes you guessed it, my laptop is no more, well it may be *sigh* Though it's my fault I should learn to keep things out of tail reach of the Labby but I was curled up on the sofa in the middle of a guild run through MC and wag, bounce, splat, fizzle............. blackness *sobs* luckily they've managed to save all of my stuff off the hard disk but with the PC on the fritz and the laptop going for a swim it's left me computerless bar the ones at work. It's claimable on the insurance at least so if it is gone for good I can replace it, just not quickly, so we'll wait and see what the verdict is. I've also been stuck at home like a hermit for 3 days because of my hayfever, it got so bad they thought i'd damaged my ribcage from sneezing and I collapsed twice with dizzy spells but *touch wood* I'm getting back to normal. Some years i'm fine and i'll barely sneeze other years it'll just knock me off my feet.

General chipper update

May. 22nd, 2006 | 01:11 pm
mood: bouncy bouncy

Hmmmm ok this is just a general random update about what's happening and so on and so forth. I still have a lovely gaping hole in my kitchen ceiling, we have to wait for the false wall and such to dry out before we can get it filled in and re-plastered. It's already generally dry but mold has started to appear through the wood in my kitchen units which means I may have to replace them too but c'est la vie at least it's sorted now.

I'm back at the gym every night to try and solve the problem with my hips (Bone marrow infection when I was young left them rather weak) as wet weather is causing havoc with them and I tried to hack out with my sister last weekend and got stuck halfway round an airfield unable to ride and it was raining *yuck*

Work is still busy busy, lots of sites starting on both CFA and Prebore so that's still a little manic plus we have guys traveling to and from Canada as we have people working in one of the open mines there, Getting Canadian Visas is joyous work.

I am currently looking into getting a new car, the car of my dreams, did an art and design project based on the design of this car while I was at college and the love hasn't faded. Unfortunately it's rare enough in America so over here they're like gold dust and my argument to Ben about it being not just a car but a piece of automotive art didn't go down too well *sigh* so I'll just have to keep hoping my numbers come up on the lottery *crosses every available limb and appendage before typing with her nose*

I just got my code through so I can start watching the ice hockey again, I have my tickets through for Bramham (big UK equestrian event) and Ben and I are planning a holiday to Chicago for my birthday this year.............. urm I think that's just about it........... Oh and thanks to a friend I have become addicted to due South, used to watch it when I was younger haven't seen it in years and now it's gotten to be a ritual that I get home from work for 7pm so I can watch it *lesigh* which makes me realize what a fun packed and crazy life I lead ;)

Ok now i'm done LOL

Update.........Finally

May. 11th, 2006 | 12:47 pm
mood: accomplished accomplished

Well work generally exploded, summer hit and so did all the sites in the UK and ireland. Shifts are getting longer and longer until soon I may as well just sleep at my desk. Trying to keep logging on to Soucon and Firefly but I can only get on at work. Ben's at a big engineering show in Germany so it's just me until saturday and everything keeps changing every five minutes as is the way of the world when your having to rely on so many councils, people, companies and machines to work together in some sort of harmony. Hope everyone and everything is ok, I wish I could get 2 minutes to myself to write some BBposts otherwise people may think I disappeared off the face of the earth (which I haven't as you can see lol) fingers crossed everything should have settled down by next week when all the rigs, operators and sites are up and running properly.

I'm just impressed that i'm keeping up with it all! he he.

Shotgun
You preferred a weapon with 52% power over speed and 61% range over melee.
You use a Shotgun.
While not the fastest gun in the west, a shotgun's raw power and ease
of use make it an extremely potent weapon. Some shotguns can also be
loaded with many different types of ammunition, providing a versatility
many guns don't have. Choosing your shots, you fell your opponents
immediately and without pause.

Nothing In Particular

Apr. 6th, 2006 | 12:02 pm
mood: bouncy bouncy

It's end of year so as usual it's busy, busy, busy in the offices. We're currently awaiting a temp to come and alleviate some of the ARGH (note that said temp is being paid far more than me for doing half the job, go figure)but so far no one has turned up.Random note: I have also for some bizarre reason got the theme song to Due South stuck in my head. I've had to get rid of simplemu on the office computers and I'm looking into getting one of those little USB thingies to bring into work so I can use simplemu again, but it ain't easy to get one around here as we really only have charity shops and pubs in my village. Trying to get into the swing of RP again with Rilla and Ishta but at the moment I keep coming home having dinner, walking the dogs and falling asleep on the couch (I feel 82 not 22 *urgh*). Ben's still out of commission with his back, they had to X-ray him cause they thought he may have slipped a disk but by the looks of things it's just torn muscle and ALOT of swelling so he's pretty much out of it with anti-inflammatorys and pain killers. On a good note though we're going for a day out to Whitby with my folks and my sister and her boyfriend, it's one of my favorite places (think Dracula and Bram stoker)and it means Ben can get out of the house for some fresh air and I can go shopping! plus the dogs love the sea, except when my dad goes surfing and they just run up and down the beach barking at him (as revenge last time my dad went surfing my Labby urinated all over my fathers clothes and wandered round with a 'Ha! that'll teach him' look on his face for the rest of the day).
Also just sorting out my tickets for the one and only Firefly/Serenity Convention in the UK I have to decide if I want to go to Serenity3 in London or Serenity4 which is due to be in Glasgow, the latter being cheaper and closer. I think that's all the random mutterings for now, other than my sister nearly went and paralyzed herself while riding, she fell off a 16 hand, over enthusiastic Irish draught who decided he didn't want to canter but she's fine just a little bruised and keeps reminding me that in her defense she was riding without stirrups.

A week for the history books

mood: confused confused
music: Boom Boom Satellites - Anthem

Ok I would say this week has been one that I will remember for a while, probably one i'll look back on in 20 years and laugh...... maybe. It all started with a major accident at work, guy almost lost a finger (for us that's a major accident) he ended up in surgery and well we were all worried cause in a small company like ours you all end up being friends. Next my uncle passed away from a heart attack, it happened all of a sudden and it shocked me greatly and it was a very upsetting time so I took an hour off work to generally calm down and have a chance to talk to my folks.............. I got fired from work for it. Then had to go to the doctor, got prescribed sleeping pills and now i'm back at work and being asked if Ben and I want to take over the company...................... seriously........................... X_x freakin weird.

The saga of the phonelines

Mar. 8th, 2006 | 12:42 pm
mood: blah blah
music: Boom Boom Satellites- I would Dive for you

I have a phone number!!!!! I have phones!!!! and now.............. I can't get broadband *sigh* apparentley our phone lines were installed while Tyrannnosaurus Rex still roamed the subtropical part of the world which was my village and they have never been updated or replaced *hurray* so we have to have an engineer out (which is typical as at one point or another we've had four of the buggers sat here drinking coffee and now I have to have another one) to Ok the line for broadband so *fingers crossed* he'll ok it and I should have it in a week, if not I will have to either beat the county council into submission until they replace the lines or live........ it hurts to say it.......... on dial up.

I'm hooked

Feb. 28th, 2006 | 09:52 am
mood: hyper hyper

After being told that my firefly dvd's were still on back order and they would take another 3 weeks I had resigned to the fact that i'd probably have to get to York (city near me, very pretty)and pay the extortionate prices of HMV. I went off to Tescos purely to get some vegetables for dinner and decided to have a look at the DVD section (when I say section It may be exagerating :/) after all I have on rare occasions found manga and Jet li movies and I was in luck there sat on the top shelf was one box set of Firefly season 1 and Serenity, there was much rejoicing, I got home at 6.30pm cooked dinner and we watched Serenity and then the first disk of season one (I realised after that that was back to front) and me and Ben are HOOKED!!!!!! it is excellent, I mean it's so different to anything else out there at the moment (even though the Reavers are very disturbing but a bit 'Ghost of Mars' ish and can happily go on the list of things 'I wouldn't like to meet down a dark alley or infact anywhere') and I would just like to say a quick Thanks to Fiora for recommending it XD

I thought I'd do this, just cause. Haven't been able to check my LJ in ages and I have just found out I won't get my Broadband till the 15th of March (colour me suprised) English telephone companies are never in a hurry.

If you had me alone...locked up in your house for twenty-four hours and I had to
do whatever you wanted me to, what would you do with me? All posts will be
permanently screened because it's a secret. Then repost this in your LJ- or
don't. You might be surprised with the responses you get.

Film night.....

Feb. 16th, 2006 | 09:55 am
mood: contemplative contemplative
music: Placebo, Gay dad, Spunge, Less than Jake, Joe Ninety.

Last night Ben and I were unpacking boxes, well when I say me and Ben I mean I unpacked he sat complaining how ill he was lol, we found a load of our DVDs that we hadn't seen in ages and one I had never seen. Le Grand Bleu, it's a film starring Jean Reno and it's written by Luc Besson and it was a wonderfully funny, romantic but heart wrenching film and well, as the ice dragon description says, I am a hopeless romantic and cried... lots.... It's about free divers (scary scary sport) and Jean Reno is, as usual, playing a wonderful character named Enzo Molinari a champion free diver and in one scene he is speaking about one of his friends, a fellow free diver and he says:

Enzo: Don't think of Jacques as a human being, he's from another world.
Johanna: Oh yeah? And what world are you from Enzo?
Enzo: Italia!

It's fab, watch it, especially when they get the job on the oil rig or when they have the drunken competition to see who can hold their breath the longest! it's hilarious! but if your anything like me have the tissues on standby... honestly......

Edit: Do not watch the american one it is awful, they took a beautiful film, replaced the original, wonderful score with cheesy music by Bill Conti and Then added a super fun simplified happy ending to make it suit the box office in the US (which it didn't it flopped)

Also I watched (Ben went to bed) Pretty Woman *points finger at hopeless romantic bit* and also an amazing British film called Shirley Valentine, which I love, and Heat (makes my cry at the end) all in all a very bizarre bunch of films but it'll have to hold me over till my Firefly dvds get here!

General update

Feb. 15th, 2006 | 10:54 am
mood: ecstatic ecstatic
music: R.E.M!!!!

Just realised I hadn't done this in a couple of days, after the jubilant news of being told I would survive a zombie attack (they are my all time second worst fear, second to scarey children ghosts) Anywho.... After having a bad week last week and being left alone working with one of the engineers who left me answering the phones while he played solitaire (suprisingly enough he is now about as popular as a horny dog in a miss lovely legs competition) and poor Ben was run ragged going from the yard to the offices the whole time (which is only a 15 minute car journey but the fuel clocked up to about 70 quid by the end of the week) I was about ready to explode when the managers called me into the office on monday with what I thought would be a telling off, which they tend to do, but no! it was a pay rise and a promotion *mini dance* not only will I now be actually paid in line with the work i'm doing but I actually have the title to prove it!
After spending yesterday trying to persuade a rather overly timid border collie and an over intelligent labrador to spend an hour in the dog run (I have a photo of my lab pearing over the 5ft fence he was trying to scale *sigh*) I got a phone call from the phone company to say that the engineer was coming back wednesday and we should have connection on thursday (not in time for the cave raid on soucon which pissed me off slightly) I also forgot it was valentines day as Ben and I had decided to postpone it till the weekend lol and he came home with a huge bunch of flowers and my favourite choccies just because *grin* so very happy happy me!
I have my new swanky computer desk that hides everything away (Ben's a messy computer player lol) and yeah I think that's it! XD so generally happy happy happy!

Tis an ice dragon breathes...when the first snowflake doesnt melt....
Your an ice dragon! Congrats! Out of all the

dragons, you are most powerful but do not

like to show it. A rare and special creture,

you have artistic style and are great at

expressing yourself. You think friends and

Familly are the most important, and are a

hopeless romantic. But of course, as ice

goes, you can be a little cold or harsh at

times. But not to worry, you always apoligize

later!
